What customers say?

“ This was the best meal I’ve had in Japan so far. I chose the Omi Beef kaiseki, part of a six- to seven-course menu that changes monthly, and every dish was exceptional—refined and full of flavor. The décor and atmosphere are outstanding, making the experience feel special. If you’re staying at a nearby hotel, this place is absolutely worth a visit for a memorable dinner. We were lucky to be seated with a group of very friendly locals, which added to the charm of the evening. That said, I highly recommend booking in advance, as seating is limited. The chefs were incredibly welcoming, and watching them work was a pleasure in itself. They also offer an excellent selection of local sake and whisky. The full six- to seven-course experience lasted about an hour and a half. We will definitely return on our next trip to Japan. ”

“ Had the Omi Beef Kaiseki, two umeshu and a mineral water. The food was exquisite, from the first course until the desert. The service was fast and attentive, it was lunch time and the bar was empty so i didnt need a reservation but for dinner might be hard to get in without it. The place was a little different with seats that go under floor level but comfortable once you get in there. Btw, I am missing a picture of the second course (a soup), because i drank half of it before realizing. ”

“ ひとつひとつがとても繊細で、丁寧に仕上げられた料理ばかりでした。 この内容で5,000円は本当に贅沢。それでいて気負わず楽しめるランチだと思います。 滋賀県名産のビワマスのお刺身も堪能でき、素材の良さが際立っていました。 特別感のあるランチを手軽に楽しみたい方におすすめです。 ”

“ A hidden gem in Otsu area. The kaiseki is superb and delicious. ”

“ This is a fantastic Japanese restaurant. It features traditional kaiseki dishes along with modern twists on standard kaiseki flavors. The sake-kasu (sake lees) based sorbet was superb. The restaurant also has an English menu and explanations of the main dishes. Prices range from mid to high depending on the course. ”

“ wow, outstanding all around. My husband and I ended up here in a roundabout way…we made a mistake when booking our nearby hotel and did not select a meal option. The hotel was unable to accommodate a meal addition for us on-the-day, and we were quite sad to have missed out on a traditional Kaiseki meal… until we came upon Kiyomoto! Turns out our hotel blunder was a blessing in disguise! I ordered the Momo Kaiseki meal and it was the most beautiful, fresh, refined, intricate, flavourful meal (i could go on forever with the adjectives) i’ve had in a long time. Certainly my favourite meal i’ve had in Japan this trip. Every dish was a work of art and oh so very delicious. The chefs were kind and attentive, and the setting was peaceful. Traditional, yet modern. Clean lines and gorgeous wood throughout. They also had the most beautiful pottery and glassware! We will certainly be returning here on our next trip- we already can’t wait to see what seasonal delicacies we get to try next time! ”
